Princess Cruises to Return to Port of Galveston for 2012-13 Caribbean Season
Crown Princess to Sail on Western Caribbean Itineraries from Texas
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (March 3, 2011) -- For the first time since 2007, a Princess Cruises ship will again set sail from the port of Galveston, offering cruises to the sunny Western Caribbean.
Crown Princess will offer 19 departures from Galveston between December 22, 2012 and April 27, 2013. The seven-day roundtrip Western Caribbean itinerary features ports of call at Costa Maya, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel, Mexico.
"We've received a great deal of feedback from cruisers interested in sailing from Galveston again," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. "So we're excited to be returning in 2012 to bring our Western Caribbean sailings back to Texas."
The 3,070-passenger Crown Princess offers greater capacity than Princess ships previously based in Galveston. The 113,000-ton vessel debuted in 2006 and offers the line's popular signature features, including a piazza-style atrium with International Café and Vines wine bar; the 300-square-foot Movies Under the Stars poolside theater; The Sanctuary, an adults-only "oasis of tranquility"; and a variety of dining, recreation and entertainment options.
"Welcoming back Princess Cruises and hosting Crown Princess is a great addition to the Texas cruise market. We're excited that the return of Princess Cruises will offer our passengers additional options of cruise vacations sailing from Texas' premiere cruise port," said Steven M. Cernak, Galveston port director. The remainder of the Princess Cruises Caribbean schedule will be announced later this month.

All we can say is, Texas get ready! Beginning November 14, 2011, Carnival Cruise Lines' newest ship, the Carnival Magic, will be calling Galveston home. Additionally, the Carnival Triumph will reposition from New Orleans to Galveston to operate year-round four- and five-day Caribbean cruises from that port beginning October 6, 2011.
In turn, the Carnival Conquest and Carnival Ecstasy, both of which are currently based in Galveston, will reposition to New Orleans to operate year-round departures from that port, returning the line to pre-Katrina capacity levels there.
It's practically impossible to do anything on a small scale in Texas, and homeporting the Carnival Magic in Galveston is no exception - it will be the largest-ever capacity commitment by a cruise line to the Lone Star state!
The Carnival Magic will debut in Europe in May 2011, offering seven-, nine- and 12-day Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona May 1 to October 16, 2011; followed by a 16-day trans-Atlantic crossing from Barcelona to Galveston departing October 28, 2011.
After October, guests can choose from two different week-long itineraries from Galveston, including seven-day western Caribbean voyages to Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, and week-long eastern Caribbean cruises to Nassau, Freeport, and Key West.
What clients do you know who are within a five-hour drive of Galveston or a quick plane flight? A Caribbean cruise is the perfect setting for a wedding party, honeymoon, anniversary, graduation, reunion, fun vacation or multi-generational trip of a lifetime!
Like its sister ship, the Carnival Dream, the Carnival Magic features exciting amenities including a spectacular water park, an exclusive adults-only retreat, a wrap-around promenade with whirlpools that extend out over the ship's sides, and expansive spa and children's facilities.
In true Carnival style, guests will have a range of stateroom choices, including family-friendly, five-berth deluxe two-bathroom ocean view accommodations; cove balcony cabins located closer to the water line; and special spa staterooms. Several innovations unique to the Carnival Magic will be announced in the near future.
The new Carnival Magic truly lives up to its name - magic.

Cruise Planners Introduces Communication Coach
- Mar 07, 2010
- By: George Dooley
- TravelAgentCentral
Cruise Planners/American Express, the nation’s largest home-based travel agent franchise network in the cruise industry, launched the Communication Coach program for its home-based travel agents. The computer-based technology, created by Success Sciences, is a simulated training tool that teaches agents to build their interpersonal skills when speaking to customers by telephone.
“Whether they are new to Cruise Planners, a seasoned agent or expert in the industry, we all need to practice our craft,” said Terri Burke, senior vice president of relationship marketing for Cruise Planners/American Express. “No matter what skill level you are at, there is always room for improvement and the Communication Coach can help agents learn the best way to express their professional communications skills.”
Specifically designed to enable users to practice the selling skills of listening, exploring and asking open-ended questions, agents using the program will build the techniques they need to respond to commonly asked questions, objections and other concerns that stand in the way of a successful sale.
The online tool provides communication scenarios that are common in the cruise industry, such as ways to approach and handle a hesitant buyer, Cruise Planners says. Agents can listen to conversations between a travel agent and buyer, practice their word choice and voice inflections with a simulated conversation and record their own practiced conversations – all in the comfort of their own home and at their own convenience.
“The purpose for us utilizing this great tool is not just solely to increase our sales, but to build up the confidence and communications skills of our home-based agents,” said Burke. “We want all of our agents to be successful with each client they speak to and if Communication Coach can help them excel in customer satisfaction, the benefit of making the sale is just a small fraction of what the agents take from this tool.”
Royal Caribbean International, which is currently using the system at its call centers with great success, is sponsoring the program for Cruise Planners. The only tools the agents need to participate in Communication Coach are the internet, a microphone for recording and headphones, which is being provided by Cruise Planners.

Royal Caribbean Names Travel Partners of the Year
Published on: January 15, 2010
Just two months ago, in a vivid reinforcement of its new brand platform, "Designed for you," Celebrity Cruises announced plans to introduce on Celebrity Eclipse – the third in Celebrity Cruises’ stylish Solstice Class fleet of ships – the first "Celebrity iLounge." The announcement met with such positive response from guests, travel agents and press that today, the brand announced plans to introduce the hip, modern lounge on Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Summit next month.
Dubbed by members of the press as "a hipster haven," "a nifty app for tech junkies," and an illustration of "how much thought some cruise lines are putting into their Internet offerings, while others treat it as an afterthought," the Celebrity iLounge on Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Summit will – as on Celebrity Eclipse – offer what the line’s guests said they wanted most in an Internet café: easy access to the Internet, inspiring classes and new products.
The Celebrity iLounge on each ship will consist of three main areas: a series of contemporary MacBook® workstations where guests can check their e-mail, retain their social media connections, or print boarding passes; a retail space offering cruisers the opportunity to check out the latest MacBooks, iPods® and accessories; and an enrichment center where certified staff will offer guests tips on Mac or iPod® usage.
"Our ‘Designed for you’ brand platform is built on Celebrity’s commitment to listen to our guests and offer experiences and programs inspired by them," said Celebrity’s President and CEO Dan Hanrahan. "The reaction we received after announcing the new venue on Celebrity Eclipse made it clear that our guests would appreciate more opportunities to experience the Celebrity iLounge, and now, they can do that while sailing year-round in the Caribbean on our stunning Celebrity Solstice, or while visiting the sophisticated island of Bermuda on Celebrity Summit."
Cruisers themselves can become more sophisticated with new applications for creatively preserving meaningful vacation moments. Within the "Discover" component of its "Celebrity Life" series of inspiring enrichment and entertainment experiences, Celebrity will offer in each Celebrity iLounge a series of engaging new courses, including movie editing and web design, through programs including iPhoto®, iMovie®, iDVD® and iWeb®. And Celebrity’s certified staffers will be well-equipped to assist, having completed more than 125 hours of training in operating systems, applications and products.
Technophiles and collectors of cool merchandise alike will find the Celebrity iLounge an enticing venue. As an Authorized Apple Reseller, Celebrity will offer a variety of products in each Celebrity iLounge for guests to purchase, including iPods, MacBooks and essential accessories.
Located on deck six of Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Eclipse, the Celebrity iLounge will house the 26 MacBook Pro’s, classroom and retail area, in addition to display pods, a 56-inch flat-screen TV for use during classes, and an accessible workstation.
On Celebrity Summit, the Celebrity iLounge will replace the current computer classroom on deck six, with the same new products and technologies as on Celebrity Eclipse and Celebrity Solstice. Even the "Online@Celebrity" cybercafé on deck four of Celebrity Summit will be retrofitted with entirely new MacBook workstations.
The new Celebrity iLounge will be ‘live’ on Celebrity Summit by May 16, on Celebrity Solstice by May 30, and on April 26 on Celebrity Eclipse, when the new ship enters service. The Celebrity iLounge also will be presented on Celebrity Silhouette, which launches in 2011, and the fifth ship in the Solstice Class fleet, which sets sail in 2012.

FORT LAUDERDALE , Fla. – November 18, 2009 – During today’s opening ceremony of the Cruise Planners/American Express annual convention, company executives unveiled their upgraded Cruise Planners University (CPU) educational program, which now integrates Cruise Lines Intern ational Association (CLIA) and select cruise line and tour company universities with Cruise Planners’ core training modules. Graduating agents will be Certified Cruise Planner Experts (CCPE), the new platinum standard in travel agent accreditation.
"Higher learning leads to higher earning," said Terri Burke, senior vice president of relationship marketing for Cruise Planners. "This new program gives our agents access to an unmatched curriculum that will put them at the forefront of the industry as top sales achievers. We’re in a competitive industry, so we’re ensuring our agents have the tools necessary to grow their home-based business by providing them with a one-stop shop where they can obtain the certifications vital to becoming top earners."
In its new virtual form, CPU is now a robust two-year program with more than 40 courses per training level and mandated testing where agents can earn the majority ofthe industry’s accreditations. It’s the first of its kind in the industry. Unique highlights ofthe university include a student union with motivating peer-to-peer games, CPU yearbook with seminars at sea, campus blog and a CPU Facebook group, just to name a few.
"At Cruise Planners we pride ourselves on having the highest percentage of CLIA accredited agents in our franchise category," continued Burke. "We knew we needed to raise the bar and create a career learning path for all of our agents that will set us apart as the most highly-trained in the industry, which was the genesis of the virtual CPU concept."
Mirrored after user-friendly social networking sites such as Facebook, the online program manages courses taken, videos watched and testing scores so agents have the convenience of continuing their education at their own pace. While CPU is all about access to earning industry accreditations, the main objective for the program is for agents to graduate as a CCPE, the highest certification currently attainable.
"The CCPE certification will be a strong indicator to consumers that they can book through Cruise Planners with extreme confidence," said Joel M. Wilder, Cruise Planners advisory board member and master cruise counselor. "This program will give the industry a jolt that attracts new talent with the cutting-edge technology, impressive training practices and accreditation that equals high-yielding producers.

Just in from the Jordanian Tourist Board:
JORDAN PROMOTES 2010 TRAVEL STIMULUS PACKAGE
The theme of this year's World Religious Travel Expo is "M ake 2010 Your Best Year Ever." JTB officials are looking to do just that not only in the religious market but in every travel niche. JTB is sponsoring the WRTA Expo Holy Land Panel of various representatives of the Bible Lands, and is a co-sponsor of NTA's International Luncheon.
"We are committed to cultivating and responding to the needs of travelers from this market," said Malia Asfour, director of the Jordan Tourism Board North America. "Despite the sobering realities of this economy, our business from North America remains strong and we don't want to lose the momentum. Many of our tour operators have reported steady and in some cases increased bookings through the end of this year, and we hope our work at the WRTA Expo and NTA will give our partners a boost as they promote Jordan for 2010 and beyond."
Asfour is convinced that the multi-dimensional experiences available in Jordan, combined with its special allure for North Americans, will continue to help Jordan despite the current economic slump. "In one boutique destination, people can experience such a wide variety of authentic experiences - adventure, luxury, leisure, culture, spa and wellness, the list goes on - we really do have what travelers from this market want."
Nayef H. Al-Fayez, JTB Managing Director, will join Asfour and several colleagues to promote Jordan during both trade shows. Al-Fayez will be a featured panelist during the WRTA Expo Holy Land Panel, moderated by Asfour, which will also include representatives from Palestine, Israel, Cyprus, Turkey and Greece. Al-Fayez also will address an expected crowd of 700 gathered during the NTA International Luncheon. During both events, JTB will once again promote opportunities for North American buyers to attend the Jordan Travel Mart (http://www.jordantravelmart.com). The third annual Jordan Travel Mart will be held Feb. 21-23, 2010 in several host facilities at the Dead Sea.
Background on Religious Travel in Jordan
Jordan has the unique ability to provide not only the core, important biblical sites such as Mount Nebo and Bethany beyond the Jordan, but also the other experiences that today's religious traveler is looking for - adventure; luxury; ways to give back (volun-tourism) and meaningfully interact with locals; leisure and other experiences.
Baptism Site Commission officials are working to help this special place once again become a pilgrim station, just as it was in the times of the first Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land.
In March, Baptist World Alliance (BWA) officials, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad of Jordan joined officials from around the world to dedicate a new Baptism Center. "I think believers from many parts of the world who want to make a pilgrimage to the area where Jesus was baptized will certainly want to make their own pilgrimage here," said BWA President David Coffey.
In May, Pope Benedict XVI blessed the cornerstones of two new Catholic churches being built at Bethany beyond the Jordan with these words: "Let us rejoice in the knowledge that the two buildings, one Latin, the other Greek Melkite, will serve to build up, each according to the traditions of its own community, the one family of God."
These new facilities join a fully operational Greek Orthodox Church and other churches already under construction. Once the new facilities are completed, officials are prepared to receive more than a million visitors a year.
Since 2007, there has been approximately a 50 percent increase rate in visitors to Bethany beyond the Jordan. Several hundred thousand visitors came to the baptism site in 2008. In 2009, more Americans have visited the site than any other nationality.
Bethany beyond the Jordan is close to Amman and about a 10-minute car ride from the Dead Sea resort and hotel area, which is served by several 4- and 5-star hotels. Planning is underway to build 3-star hotels on the northeastern shore of the Dead Sea.
